Join the Potomac Rose Society on Sunday January 19, as David Austin Roses Senior Rose Consultant, Liam Beddall, joins us from Shropshire, England to discuss the newest David Austin Roses and how to incorporate English Roses into a garden design. Liam is a wealth of information on both roses & garden design, so you’ll be sure to learn something new!
What are David Austin roses known for? Fragrance, luscious & romantic blooms, and an elegant habit. Great strides have been made in recent years to prioritize health in the breeding program, and exciting new roses have recently been released that prove to “check all the boxes” that rosarians are looking for. Liam will navigate the 2025 David Austin Roses catalog many of us are currently receiving in our mailboxes, and inspire us with tips for how to use them in a variety of situations. The garden of your dreams is closer than you think!
Do you insist that each rose in your garden be fragrant? Liam will explain how we should open our minds to a larger selection of roses, since fragrance from a rose in the back of the border is imperceptible while a rose in the front of the border or at nose height will definitely get the sniff test!
As a passionate rose grower and all-round plant lover, Liam's day-to-day is spent looking after garden designers, landscapers, and public facing spaces. As Senior Rose Consultant and Head of Professional Trade Services at David Austin Roses, Liam works with his team to advise and consult on the UK's leading rose gardens. He is particularly passionate about designing with roses and companion plants with a common-sense approach, and has been fortunate to help design both private and public gardens throughout the UK and Europe.
Prior to joining David Austin in his current role, Liam got his start in the industry working at the David Austin Roses Gift Shop in Shropshire, England. Liam holds a BA in Modern European Languages from Liverpool University & earned the RHS Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Plant Growth, Propagation, and Development. Liam is an allotment gardener and also Membership Secretary for the Rose Society of the UK. When he’s not thinking about roses, Liam performs as a jazz musician in several groups.
