Locally grown flowers are a growing trend in the flower industry, as environmentally conscious consumers are looking to purchase flowers that are grown locally, seasonally, and ecologically. The alternative of purchasing flowers imported from other countries, often grown using chemicals and pesticides, is becoming less attractive as flower lovers seek out more sustainable sources for their blooms. Join the Potomac Rose Society on Sunday February 18 at 2:00 PM for a talk with Alex Mudry-Till from Quince Blossom Ridge, and learn about all of her special tips, favorite varieties for cutting, and sustainable gardening practices that she uses to grow beautiful garden roses in our challenging Mid-Atlantic climate.
Quince Blossom Ridge is a specialty cut flower farm and event venue, just one hour south of Washington, D. C. in historic Southern Maryland. Husband and wife team, Dan Till and Alex Mudry-Till, grow specialty cut flowers including tulips, ranunculas, peonies, dahlias, tuberose, and woody perennials along with numerous annuals for sale to the wholesale event flower market as well as at farmers markets and CSA bouquet subscriptions.
Their passion, though, is growing roses for the cut flower market as well as within their landscaped garden rooms. Dan and Alex grow all of their flowers and foliage without using any pesticides, herbicides or fungicides, and focus on using low till, regenerative practices and beneficial insects to keep their plants and soil healthy.
