Biographical information: Dr. Harlan Svoboda has been the Curator of the U.S. National Arboretum Herbarium since October of 2021 following a postdoctoral fellowship which started in 2018. He oversees the day-to-day operations of the 700,000-specimen herbarium, adding new material to the collection, providing plant identifications, fulfilling data and access requests, and managing the ongoing mass digitization project. Dr. Svoboda holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Stephen F. Austin State University in Texas and he received his Ph.D. in plant systematics from Ohio University where he studied the taxonomy of tropical passionflowers.
